I recently traveled to China to visit my son, who's on a semester abroad there. A friend in Beijing took us to Paper a little more than a week ago. It was fabulous. Nice to see your posting!

Arisa Go - yes, I hate ordering from menu because I could never decide and ended up ordering only those "safe" dishes (knowing that they will taste good regardless of the restaurant)...this is definitely a good concept.

Kok - I told the waiter that I don't eat red meat, hence I do not have red meat. Easy! Next time I will just say "All seafood!" LOL.

Tekko - yeah, considering the amount of food, I think it's reasonable.

Chubbypanda - yeah, Chinese tapas...good idea. Are you game for a Paper restaurant in the OC? I will be your partner...hehehehe.

MQ - I suck at in-door food photography. As to taking food pictures, I think the key is to set your camera to macro setting, and then do a close-up, don't shake (use glasses as a temporary tripod), take many shots, and lots of sun light please. Then a little photoshop and voila...but I am really an amateur, so don't listen to me completely.

wow!

the food looked magnifico!

and to be able to enjoy such dishes without the need of going through the menu was even better. at least it reduced the number of headaches you will get in deciding one tempting dish out of many many delicious dishes.

good recommendation! paper restaurant!

Claude - hey thanks x1000 times. This 14-course menu has inspired me to cook my Rasa Malaysia 14-course...stay tuned...hehe.

Boo - For China, I much prefer the food in Shanghai to tell you the truth. Beijing has a few gems, but Shanghai is a different ball game...I think the food in Shanghai is better than Hong Kong these days.

Tiga - no, they were not Lionhead, just plain ground pork patty. The black thing is nori, yes. I have never been to any private kitchens, but this sure seems like it. :)

Expedited Writer - great, I am a seafood fanatic too! :)

Nate - the cod fish was very lightly flavored, I think just some soy sayce and cooking wine.

Victor - hehe. :P

Wandering Chopsticks - I think every food culture have their interpretation of groud pork patty...LOL. ;)

PE - yeah, it should be called Paper-less. :P

Lucia - yes, I think I am quite lucky in the food department. :)

Precious - yep, all tasted great.

Keropok - LOL...Rasa Beijing or Rasa China will work!

Married To A Desi - It certainly saves a lot of time and hassle. Just get a table and you can start eating. I hate ordering from the menu too because you never know what is good or bad especially if it's a new restaurant.

Stephanie - of course, new recipes will be on the way...I haven't given up cooking...my kitchen is lonely without me. ;)

Meiyen - ooooh, tagged...I will have to check it out.

Michenall - I didn't try the hot pot I wanted to, but when you are traveling alone, it's hard to have a hot pot. I did have a Ma La hot pot when I was in Taipei last year. Suffice it to say, it was even hotter than the Sichuan dishes.

Ming - yes, no menu rocks and omikase rocks too!
