I am so excited that The New York Times has picked Penang, Malaysia (my hometown) as one of the 44 places to go in 2009. This is a great honor to Malaysians, especially to Penangites because–very sadly–Malaysia is not on the “tourist map” of Americans.
I have traveled extensively and have been to numerous places in the world, but Penang always holds a very special place in my heart. Penang is home; it’s also a place with many unique offerings: heritage (Georgetown, Penang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site), food, nature, culture, sun, and more…
Currently ranked at the 2nd spot by “Reader Recommendations,” I urge you to vote for Penang (just click on Penang, Malaysia, and then click on “Recommend”). As a foodie, you ought to visit Penang one day, as The New York Times puts it “…one of Southeast Asia’s liveliest street-food scenes…” My good friends Robyn and Dave of Eating Asia–two American food/travel writer and photographer extraordinaires–have recently traveled to Penang and chronicled the portraits of Penang in this post, so please go and read it up.
(Anthony Bourdain and/or the No Reservations crew, I hope you are reading this. I would love to be your host if you are planning a trip to Penang!)
I am going to let you know more about what my family is doing for Penang and its tourism in my next post, so please stay tuned. For now, please vote for Penang.
Thanks in advance!
