One of my biggest supporters and probably Rasa Malaysia’s very first reader, ToniXe of Backstreet Gluttons sent this photo to me after I posted my curry puff recipe.
This picture shows the real stuff found in Malaysia.
Curry Puff — RM1.20
Vadai — RM0.80
3 curry/coconut sauces — FREE
Total Damage — RM2.00 (less than US$0.60)
You can get the above goodies at Devi’s Corner in Bangsar (near Kuala Lumpur/KL), Malaysia. For other good eats in and around KL, head over to Backstreet Gluttons now. If not for the food, you will be amused and entertained by ToniXe’s colorful writing style and his wicked sense of humor.

Thai Chicken Curry with Bamboo Shoots
On my Rasa Malaysia Facebook fan page (“like” me if you haven’t), a reader asked me how to prepare Thai-style chicken curry with bamboo shoots, like the ones commonly served at Thai restaurants here in the United States. It was a coincidence that I had some leftover bamboo shoots in the refrigerator so I made a small pot of Thai…

RM, I was about to make vadai this weekend but you beat me to it! Anyway, I’ve tagged you for a meme, please tell us the 5 things most people don’t know about you! :)
RM2.00 is so cheap. So so cheap!!!
RM is Rasa Malaysia or Ringgit Malaysia ? :O
So cheap, and can even have a choice of sauces.
Curry puff and vadal is an odd combination or is it me, who is the oddball? :O
Precious Pea – check my latest post…you will like it. :)
Jackson – I know what you mean, if you are in the business, I am sure you will be sick of them.
Team BSG – you are welcome! Your site is wonderful and I had fun pimping it. :)
Shilpa – I don’t think I have ever had vadai, but I could be wrong…show me the recipe please!
Ooooh Meme, will have to check it out.
Simcooks – yeah lah, here US2.00 also cannot get one. :(
Tiga – Right now RM is Rasa Malaysia, one day I hope Rasa Malaysia will bring bling bling Ringgit Malaysia. Muahahahahah!
i like the fact that mamak stalls in m’sia offers (almost) endless supply of sauces (dahl, kari ikan, sambal..)
yummmmm.
Mamak stall is the best thing in the world…without those mamak stalls, Malaysian “dining” scene would be a lot paler. ;)
I used to tapau some vadai everytime I had some mamak/indian style/Thosai and so on for breakfast. I used to go to the shop around PJ Old Town because it was near to my office. Now that I’m in Perth, the paper thosai really taste like paper, tasteless. I missed Malaysia and the variety of food that we can get and eat.
