To close this festive celebration on a sweet note, here is the much-loved and popular peanut dumplings (花生汤圆) recipe, served in a ginger syrup. If you remember, I posted the popular black sesame dumpling recipe a few years ago (which caused quite a big stir not too long ago) and these peanut dumplings recipe is high on the requested recipe list. I &#8220;met&#8221; Brian a couple of years ago via Twitter and finally we met in person this October when his family came to visit. He is my biggest fan and supporter and he is always there for me whenever I need to chat or vent. Last December, Brian sent me a care package—a ziploc bag full of peanut brittle. At the first bite, I was immediately hooked. It was the BEST peanut brittle ever! This is not an over statement because I am not much a sweet tooth and I actually don&#8217;t like sweet stuff, but it was so good that I couldn&#8217;t stop munching away. This year, I waited anxiously for the holiday season, and without fail, my care package of peanut brittle arrived again and it was gone in no time&#8230;and I realized that I have to get Brian to share the recipe. Brian&#8217;s recipe came from his mom. They are crunchy, sweet, aromatic, with loads of peanuts and sinfully decadent and addictive. One of her tips, which I stick to, is to use white tableware and if you dine at my house and find that all my tableware are white, blame it on Bee! Bee and I agreed on a tiramisu post and I took quite a while to make different versions of tiramisu (green tea, green tea with choc and classic) because Italian mascarpone cheese (pronounced &#8220;mas-car-pon-nay,&#8221; not &#8220;mas-car-pon&#8221;) is flown in only once a week by a wholesaler and the hotels get the first pick. I&#8217;ve found that only Italian mascarpone—creamy-white, less dense but silkier than clotted cream with a milky flavor that reminds me of good buffalo mozzarella—makes the best tiramisu. 		<description><![CDATA[I first fell in love with cream puffs when I was in primary school. In my class, there was this boy whose father owned a popular bakery shop and their specialty was cream puffs. Every year, the bakery would sponsor their cream puffs to the students at the school; we would bring back a box filled with the sweet, puffy, custardy cream puffs. I just loved them and couldn&#8217;t get enough, and secretly wished that one day I would own a bakery with endless supply of cream puffs! Check out this cream puffs recipe from my contributor Ho Siew Loon. The craze over Japanese-style baking and pastries continues. Cream puff is a popular snack in Japan and it is available in all bakeries, for example: the amazingly successful Beard Papa&#8217;s cream puff franchise. Last weekend, while sorting out my recipes I found this cream puff recipe and decided to bake it. The choux  puffed up so so nice and beautiful. As for the crème pâtissière filling, it is adapted from Little Teochew, one of my favorite blogs. This little puffs were so good that it was gone within an hour. Great cream puffs are always puffy on the outside but hollow on the inside where we put in the filling. It is light in weight, too. The Japanese version is filled with crème pâtissière which has a smooth texture with milky taste. You might also be interested in the French version of cream puff here, by David Lebovitz. I wanted to, but paying $2.50 for both flans is definitely cheaper than buying all the specialty flan cook ware and ramekins&#8211;not mentioning the time I would spend pottering in my kitchen preparing flan and making sure they come out right. I have no doubt that making flans is a fulfilling experience&#8211;a skill I would love to acquire eventually&#8211;but with my busy schedules lately, I simply can&#8217;t afford to attempt them at home. I first tasted flans in the late 1990&#8242;s&#8211;I had just graduated from college and started working in the US. (I had never seen or tasted flans when I was in Malaysia.) My then co-worker invited me for dinner and his wife made flans for dessert. I remember vividly the first taste; it was a dessert so delicate, beautiful, and sublime&#8211;egg custard served in a bath of amber-hued caramel&#8211;it was smooth and melted in my mouth. 		<description><![CDATA[One thing I resolved to do better is learning how to bake, so when I was home this past trip, I managed to pick up a ton of baking essentials: cookie cutters, scale, baking thermometer, cake tester, scraping spoons, etc. (Things are a lot cheaper in Malaysia despite the weak dollars!). Last weekend, I unwrapped all my shiny new baking gear and put them to good use. I made some shortbread cookies. I am always green with envy when I see blogs graced with adorable and beautiful cookie pictures such as this, this, and this&#8211;the ribbon, the composition of the pictures, and those little cookies that you just wanted to scratch from the monitor and pop them in your mouth&#8211;so I decided to dress up my blog with some eye-candy pictures, too&#8230; Not too shabby, huh?
