Baked Mozzarella Cheese Sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 package reduced-fat mozzarella string cheese
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 8 tablespoons Japanese panko or bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup prepared marinara sauce warmed (optional)

Instructions

  • Position the rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat it to 350°F (176°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and spray it lightly with cooking spray.
  • Remove the mozzarella cheese from its packaging and set it aside. In a small non-stick skillet, combine the Italian seasoning with the panko and place it over medium heat. Cook and stir the bread crumbs until they are lightly browned.
  • Dip each string cheese in the egg until coated, then into the toasted panko to coat evenly. Redip the string cheese in the egg and then again into the panko. Place on the baking sheet and repeat until all the string cheese is used.
  • Bake for 5-6 minutes, or until heated through. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Notes

Cheese may melt slightly and loose shape. Simply press it back into place.
