Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-raising flour
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 5 tablespoons butter melted, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups beer

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9" x 5" (23cm x 12cm) loaf pan. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, 4 tablespoons of melted butter, and beer, stirring until smooth—don’t worry if there are some small lumps.
  • Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top, and drizzle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of melted butter. Bake the bread for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs clinging to it.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before turning it out onto a cooling rack. Wait until the bread cools completely before slicing. Serve it with your favorite preserves or jam.
