Meet Bee Yinn Low

Hi there! My name is Bee, and I am the founder, recipe developer, and foodie behind Rasa Malaysia. I started this blog in 2006 when I was the Director of International Development at MySpace.

In the past 18 years of running this blog, I have made a name for myself as a best-selling cookbook author of Easy Chinese Recipes: Family Favorites From Dim Sum to Kung Pao.

I also develop easy and delicious Asian and American recipes for home cooks all around the world.

More About Me

I’m Chinese-Malaysian, born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. Food has always been central to my life. From amazing local street food to delicious home-cooked meals, I grew up surrounded by vibrant flavors and diverse cuisines.

I started this blog in 2006 to document traditional family recipes I grew up with, and eventually, recipes I shared with my son as he grew up in the States.

During the pandemic in 2020, I moved my family back to Malaysia after being in the United States for 25 years. I often travel within the region—Southeast Asia, Greater China, and Japan—to immerse myself in the local food culture, discover unique flavors, and learn traditional cooking techniques from locals with the goal of sharing more amazing recipes with you!

Reviews: Easy Chinese Recipes Cookbook

“This cookbook is full of the kind of recipes one would get out in a restaurant, from egg drop soup to orange chicken, only you, yes you, can make these at home. Low has demystified the sauces, the ingredients, and the techniques to make the recipes achievable, and yes, easy.”

– Becky

“Bee has an AMAZING palate, but also is incredibly skilled at breaking down the dishes into their key elements so that even traumatized cooks like me can not only attempt but actually succeed at producing fantastic Chinese dishes… Easy Chinese Recipes” is like America’s Test Kitchen/Cook’s Illustrated for Chinese dishes. It’s so good!”

“I have been following Bee Yinn Low on her blog Rasa Malaysia for some time and have loved the recipes that I have tried there. This cookbook is just an added delight. I have yet to have a recipe from Bee disappoint, and can safely say that my husband is always very happy when he hears I am diving into another of Bee’s recipes.”

My Works in Media

Many of my recipes have been featured in major press and publications, such as Saveur Magazine, Bon Appetit, Monocle Magazine, Lonely Planet, The New York Times, Theme Magazine, Woman’s Day, Serious Eats, Huffington Post, Mashable, BuzzFeed, Design Sponge, Apartment Therapy, and many more.

I have also made appearances on TV and radio programs all over the US and Asia and even did live cooking demos at Macy’s Home Store!

My Personal Favorites

I loooove seafood, especially crab and clams, so you’ll see many seafood recipes here. But the recipe I probably use most often is my Butter Cake recipe. And believe me when I say that it’s the best recipe you can find online!

These are the recipes that I always cook at home (or order when dining out):
