Green bean, or string bean, is one of my favorite vegetables. They are very easy to make at home. This green bean recipe is so fast, it takes me 5 minutes from start to finish!
Spring is a wonderful time to try this recipe as farmers market offers an abundant supply of them. They are also available at supermarkets and food stores throughout the year.
How To Cook Green Beans
This Garlic Green Bean calls for just a few ingredients:
- Minced garlic
- Salt
- Ground pepper
I am using Chinese techniques on this recipe. For the best texture, you want to flash cook the beans. A quick stir-fry and saute in a hot wok or skillet will make sure they remain crisp, with a gorgeous and vibrant green color.
You can cook them longer if you like. They are called “dry-fried” green beans in Chinese and the surface become wrinkly and slightly brown. Both are delicious ways to cook fresh green beans.

Garlic Green Beans
Ingredients
- 8 oz (230g) green beans
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
- salt, to taste
- 3 dashes ground white pepper, or black pepper
Instructions
- Trim the top and bottom ends of the green beans, rinse them, and set aside.
- In a pan, add the oil and sauté the garlic until light brown. Add the green beans, salt, and pepper, and continue stirring until they are cooked. Transfer to a serving plate and serve immediately.

After reading your bean recipe I just had to try it out. I’m a big fan of green beans. Followed your recipe to the T the first time I cooked them. All I can say is lovely lovely. I can’t get these beans — whatever they are called — in Belize. The ones that look like this are very tough and have to be stewed. But we have snake beans (aka long beans) that are sweet and tender; this recipe should work for those too! Thank you.
