What can you add to spaghetti to make it taste good? Here are the list of everyday pantry ingredients that add flavors to pasta:

  • A good quality olive oil or extra virgin olive oil.
  • Minced garlic.
  • Salt.
  • Ground black pepper.
  • Dried red chili flakes.

Please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of this post for full details on each ingredient.

How To Make Easy Spaghetti

This image shows the Spaghetti combined with all the seasonings.

Start by cooking your spaghetti according to the package instructions until it’s al dente—don’t forget to drain it afterward! While that’s going on, grab a skillet, heat it up, and throw in some olive oil and butter. Once the butter’s melted and the oil is hot, toss in the garlic and sauté it until it smells irresistible. Then, add your drained spaghetti into the skillet. Season it with salt, pepper, and a little chili flakes if you want some heat. Stir everything together so it’s all mixed in nicely!

Now, just plate it up, sprinkle some fresh parsley on top for a pop of color, and serve it right away while it’s still nice and hot! Enjoy!

Secrets To Perfect Spaghetti

Here are a few tips I swear by to make this easy spaghetti recipe even better:

  • I always keep an eye on the cooking time to get that perfect al dente texture. Trust me, no one wants soggy pasta!
  • I always go for a good quality extra virgin olive oil. It really boosts the flavor and gives the dish that rich, savory kick. Trust me, it makes all the difference!
  • Fresh garlic is key! It’s more aromatic and flavorful than pre-minced garlic, so it’s definitely worth the extra step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use regular olive oil instead of extra virgin olive oil?

I always go for extra virgin olive oil because it gives the dish that rich, savory flavor that really brings everything together. But if you don’t have it, regular olive oil will do the job just fine!

Can I make this without butter?

I highly recommend using butter—it adds that extra richness and flavor that takes the dish to the next level. But if you’re keeping it light, just go with more olive oil. It’ll still taste amazing!

How do I store leftovers?

Just pop them in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge for up to 2 days. When you’re ready to eat, reheat in a skillet with a splash of olive oil to bring that flavor back to life!

Amazing! So much better than ordering in. I added too much oil but it was still amazing. I substituted diced chilli and also a slosh if truffle oil. This will be high on my rotation now.

I’ve been cooking this dish for many years since I studied in Italy. I like to add onion rings to the saute. Slice the rings, then slice the radius so they will so they will be somewhat straight with the pasta. I prefer using cappelini to spaghetti.

This recipe is very similar to a classic Italian dish, Pasta Aglio e Olio – pasta with garlic and oil. I love it for a simple lunch or, as you said, an easy pairing for chicken or fish for dinner. And the dried chili flakes pack such an awesome wallop of heat and flavor!
