Creamy Garlic Thyme Chicken - delicious pan-fried chicken in a creamy garlic thyme sauce. Easy one-skillet chicken dinner is ready in 20 mins.
Now that Labor Day is over and everyone is back to school, let’s bid goodbye to summer foods and get re-acquainted with simple, fast and wholesome weeknight dinners again.
This creamy garlic thyme is a perfect dish that you can make for the entire family, in less than 20 minutes!
This creamy garlic thyme chicken recipe is light and not too rich. While I used heavy whipping cream to make the sauce, it is not overpowering.
We all know how it feels when you have something too creamy and rich right before bedtime; the chicken thighs are pan-fried and have a nice crispy bottom and the skin is golden brown while the inside of the chicken is still tender and moist.
Be generous on the garlic and thyme as they infuse the chicken with deep flavors and aroma. The sauce is slightly spiced with cayenne pepper.
Every mouthful of the chicken is utterly satisfying and I assure you that your family would love this homey and delicious garlic thyme chicken.

I made half a tray of chicken thighs with this recipe last night. My husband was so impressed he said “This is the best thing I ate all year!” lol…so, with the other half tray, I’m making the same thing tonight! So, so good.
Highly recommend :)
*Deglazed pan after sauteeing garlic with 1/2 C White Wine, and used the juice of 1 lemon. Also used a bit more cream. Yum.
Good
Thank you for the recipe! Really really good. I really browned the chicken, added a few scallions and a dash of Dijon mustard. Only because I like those flavours but even before adding, your sauce was delicious. I just popped them into oven to finish cooking in sauce Very easy and a great dinner!

Hi Rasa, I was wondering how you come up with the nutrition facts. Do you use a nutritionist or a company or do you figure out the numbers yourself?
We used a website called Very Well.
Hello! I improvised the recipe and used whatever I have in the fridge. I didn’t have a lot of garlic so I diced 6 cloves of garlic, added a mixture of flour & water to thicken the sauce, used cooking cream instead of whipping cream. The dish was such a hit! Thank yoy for sharing ?
Tried this for the first time. Used lemon thyme instead cos it was on sale. Love the extra zest in the sauce! Will make it again!
That’s awesome Claire.
An amazingly tasty recipe that had my wife and daughter scrambling for every last piece of garlic dredged in the sauce. Very simple and full of flavor!
Hi Chuck, so happy to hear that!! Thanks for trying my recipe. Do check out my recipe index, all my recipes are very simple and yummy: https://rasamalaysia.com/recipe-index-gallery/
I made this dish tonight and made a few changes. I did as the other guy had suggested and pulled the cloves off the head and peeled the garlic. I began to cook the chicken on top of the stove but it seemed to me like all that was doing was steaming the chicken so I put my oven on 400 Degrees convection roast and baked it that way for 20 minutes and it came out perfect! My family Loved it!!
Hi Haley, thanks for trying this creamy garlic thyme chicken recipe!
what temperature and for how long?
Two HEADS of garlic? or two CLOVES?? and shouldn’t they be smashed..not left whole????
Thanks
Heather
Two heads, I like them whole, they are great. You can break them up but keep whole. They won’t taste as good minced.
I used one head, thumped and peeled the garlic gloves and let them cook in the sauce. Yes, they became soft and creamy – a little different than your original recipe, but quite delicious.
Hi Carl, that’s a good idea. I will have to try that. Thanks for trying this creamy garlic thyme chicken recipe!
DO you live the skin on the garlic cloves?
With the skin, they are great like that. You then eat the garlic if you like them, they are not mushy but nicely cooked with a crunch.
