How Long To Cook Chicken Thighs In An Instant Pot

The pressure cooking time is very short, depending on how tender you want your chicken thighs to be.
I use a 6-quart Instant Pot. For boneless and skinless chicken thighs, pressure cook on Manual setting and high pressure for 6 minutes.
For bone-in chicken thighs, it’s 8 minutes on Manual setting and high pressure. This setting works the best as it yield tender and juicy chicken, with a nice bite to the chicken.
Can I Use Frozen Chicken Thighs

You can use frozen chicken thighs for this recipe. Just add 1-2 minutes extra pressure cooking time to the recipe.

Instant Pot Chicken Teriyaki
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tablespoon cooking oil
- 1 1/2 lbs (750g) boneless and skinless chicken thighs
- 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/2 cup mirin
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon water, mix well
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- white sesame seeds, for garnishing, optional
Instructions
- Turn on the Sauté mode on your Instant Pot. Once the pot is fully heated (to prevent the chicken from sticking), add the cooking oil.
- Pan-sear the chicken thighs until they turn slightly brown on the surface. (If they stick to the pot too much, you can use a non-stick skillet for searing or skip this step.)
- Add the soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Cover the pot, select Manual, and set it to High Pressure for 6 minutes.
- When it beeps, perform a quick release. Once the valve drops, carefully remove the cover. Set the Instant Pot to Sauté mode, then add the cornstarch slurry and stir to thicken the sauce.
- Turn off the heat, garnish the chicken with sesame seeds (if using), and serve immediately with steamed rice.

This recipe keeps coming up as burn for me, any suggestions to fix that? Thank you.
The burn notice usually happens when the bottom gets too hot or things stick. Try adding a little more water (1–2 tablespoons) and make sure to stir and scrape the bottom well after adding the sauce. You can also skip searing in the pot and do it separately if needed.
