Sticky Honey Soy Chicken

One of my favorite dishes to make for my family is various kinds of baked chicken: ginger garlic baked chicken, baked Hoisin chicken, honey lemongrass baked chicken, and this amazing, moist, and super delicious baked honey soy chicken.

It’s one of the easiest chicken recipes ever, and everyone loves it.

Ingredients To Make Honey Soy Chicken

Freshly baked from oven chicken thighs marinated with honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic in aluminium foil.

This Asian-flavored chicken recipe calls for very simple store-bought ingredients. These days, you don’t even have to go to Asian supermarkets or stores for Asian ingredients.

Sauces and condiments such as oyster sauce and sesame oil are widely available at the international food aisle, so you have every reason to whip up this amazing baked honey soy chicken for your family.

Cooking Tips

A close up shot of golden-brown glazed chicken thighs with scallion and white sesame sprinkled on top.

The chicken is tender, juicy and bursting with the sweet and savory flavors of soy sauce and honey. For deeper flavors, I always add minced garlic and ginger to the chicken.

Both ginger and garlic infuse the chicken with pleasant aromas. The chicken is best served with steamed rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs (700 grams) chicken thighs
  • 2 inch (5 cm) ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 dashes white pepper
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  • Rinse the chicken thighs and pat dry with paper towels. Add the ginger and garlic to the chicken and gently rub them on the chicken thighs. Add the rest of the ingredients to the chicken thighs, stir to coat well.
  • Set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Pre-heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line the chicken on a tray lined with aluminium foil and bake for 40 minutes in the middle of the oven.
  • Or until the surface turn golden brown, slightly charred and the inside of the chicken thighs are cooked. Serve immediately.

Notes

You may cover the chicken with aluminum foil to prevent the surface from getting too dark. You can do that in the middle of baking the chicken, once the chicken surface has turned dark but the inside is still not cooked.

Either one would be work. I personally prefer it with rice. Happy cooking!

    5 stars
Made this, loved the flavor but, I let the marinade go too long. How long? How about 3 days. Also, I deboned the chicken thighs and because of that & the lengthy marinade time the chicken pretty much fell apart. I’ve never had this happen so I wonder if the meat was too tender due to a culmination of all the ingredients? None the less the flavor was 5 stars all the way

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Hi Jake. The soy sauce will break down the fibres in the meat if you marinade it for longer than 24 hours, hence the over-tenderized meat.

  3. Deb G. says:

Hi there. Are the thighs with bones or boneless? Does it have skin or no? Thanks.

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

You can use thighs with or without bones. I prefer with skin-on, as the skin keeps the meat more juicy. But it’s totally up to you.

  4. Debra says:
