Garlic Knots Recipe
This is an easy and delicious pizza dough garlic knots recipe, it’s so much fun to make these homemade garlic knots bread with the family!
When it comes to baking recipes, I love recipes that are simple to make, preferably with store-bought ingredients.
This easy garlic knots recipe is exactly what I am looking for, using a pre-made frozen pizza dough that you can get at any grocery stores.
I have made these pizza dough garlic knots three times and they were gone as soon as they were out of the oven.
They are as addictive as Brazilian cheese bread!

How To Make Garlic Knots
It is fun making these garlic knots, especially the tie-the-knot step.
How to tie the knots? This picture below from Fine Cooking shows you how to do it.
To tie the knots, first you need to roll and stretch out the pizza dough (frozen pizza dough is stiff and not pliable after thawing) and then divide them into 24 individual strips.
Roll each dough strip into a short rope and then wrap the dough around your fingers into a knot, tying the knot like you usually do.
Brush the garlic butter mixture on the surface and bake them in the oven.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you sure can.
I recommend freezing them in a plastic bag. To serve, just reheat in a toaster oven or microwave.
You may freeze the garlic knots up to a few weeks. To ensure freshness, you may wrap them with a sheet of aluminum foil.
Unfortunately, this is not a keto recipe. Pizza dough is full of carb.
Each knot is only 111 calories.

Garlic Knots
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. (1kg) pizza dough, store-bought, thawed at room temperature
- all-purpose flour, for rolling out dough
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Italian flat leaf parsley, finely chopped
- salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Divide the dough in half, keeping one half covered under a kitchen towel. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the other half with a rolling pin to create a 10-inch (25 cm) square. If the dough is very stiff, use your hands to stretch it.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza wheel, cut the 10-inch square in half to form two rectangles. Then, cut each rectangle into 12 strips, making sure the strips are shorter and thicker rather than longer and thinner.
- Tie each strip into a knot and arrange the knots on the lined baking sheets. Cover them with a kitchen towel while you repeat the rolling, cutting, and tying process with the second half of the dough.
- Bake the knots for 5 minutes, then rotate the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and fully cooked.
- While the knots bake, grate the garlic cloves using a Microplane and combine them with olive oil and butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook just until the butter has melted and the mixture is warmed. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley.
- Immediately after baking, brush the knots with the garlic mixture and sprinkle with kosher salt. Serve warm.

Can you prep them ahead of time, maybe the day before? Then throw them on a pan and bake them the next day?
Hi Jeremy, yes, you can freeze the dough and thaw and bake, but I would just do it on the same day to get the best results.
Hello. I tried to find the pizza dough but u fortunately it’s not available in any groceries shop. Where did you get yours?
You can get it at Whole Foods or Trader’s Joes.
I made this tonight and I’m kind of sad. I followed the receipt to the T but for some reason they didn’t plump up like the photo shows. I’m my sure what went wrong. Any advise?? Maybe the wrong pizza dough?
Hi Lisa, I am not sure what happened. What brand did you use? So sorry that it didn’t work out for you. :(
These were delicious. I served it with home made chicken noodle soup. Perfect on a fall day. I made them with store bought dough this time but will try with my home made dough for sure next time! On a side note, I really do not understand why people think they can be so rude via the Internet. Criticism can be done in a constructive manner, not rudely as I just read in previous comments.
I canNOT believe how flagrantly rude some of the people have been in response to your garlic knots post. I wish people would find time to reflect INWARDLY before they speak negatively towards another human being- gah!! :(
I do not know these ppl but, I feel like I should apologize to you on behalf of the MANY who love your site and recipes (which, if I may say, by far outweigh the “un-lovers”)-(who knows, it’s quite possible that the “un-lovers” were just having a bad day… ?).
I, for one, appreciate the time and effort you’ve clearly put in, providing both a “short-cut” method with the store bought pizza dough (genious! for when you’re running slim on time or just not energized enough to take on the from scratch version), as well as, an all from scratch recipe.
BRAVA! RASA!!!

Thanks Samone for your support. I really appreciate it.
Only 10 minutes cooking time at 350? Are you sure you didn’t mean 450? It’s been 15 minutes plus and the knots still look pretty pale.
Fabulous and so easy! Nothing wrong with easy, no complaints here. Tks
you’re recipes are starting to not be so good. bummer. and it is very obvious why.
AJ – what do you mean? This recipe was posted years ago. It’s not a new recipe.
I was looking for the actual recipe. Anybody can go to a store and buy the anything. What a waste of time. thanx for nothing.
The recipe is here: https://rasamalaysia.com/garlic-knots/2/. This recipe uses frozen pizza dough and then made into garlic knots.
