I used half & half instead of cream, regular bacon, and dried chives in place of scallions. Delicious! Only thing I would say is that it was kind of swimming in the butter at the end. I might personally dial it back a little to see if I can get away with less. Still highly recommend. Boyfriend approved.

      Thanks.

  2. Kelly Schumacher says:

I made this tonight. Doubled recipe and used 13 glass baking dish. Used undiluted evaporated milk instead of cream. Substituted chopped red pepper for scallion. Apart from that, followed recipe, and it was AWESOME.

My family LOVES this dish!! My college students ask for it every time they come home for a break. My daughter has even made it for her boyfriend and his roommates and they love it as well. One of the roommates ate a whole pan himself! We cook the bacon a bit before putting it in the dish – gives it nice crunch.

I have a question for you on this one…my sister absolutely HATES ranch but she also hates sour cream (which I saw in your writing portion that you suggested could be used in place of the ranch)…what are some suggestions of what I can use instead of ranch or sour cream? Please help!! I want to make this very very soon!

The recipe calls for bacon. Your video, looks like it is back bacon, I assuming , you donโ€™t need to cook the bacon? I want to try out the recipe tomorrow.

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

You can use American bacon or Canadian bacon. In the video, it’s Canadian bacon. Bacon will be cooked in the oven.

      1. Carey Schafer says:

Hi Rasa, so does the bacon go into the pot raw and it cooks with everything else or do you pre cook it?
        Thanks in advance :)

        1. Rasa Malaysia says:

          Pre-cooked or raw is fine.

  9. Robdontcallmebob says:

I doubled the recipe and substituted chicken tenders for breasts filling the dish. I double stacked the potatoes with the tenders between. Also substituted sour cream for ranch dressing. The excess liquid combined with the sauce as the dish cooled. GREAT RECIPE!! Gobbled by 4. Served with steamed asparagus and caramel apple Pie over a cheddar cheese round for dessert.

  10. Chez says:

If I double the amount, would the time and temperature change? :)

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Hi Chez, the temperature should be the same and cooking time should be the same, too. If not, bake a bit longer.
