Hawaiian Baked Chicken - savory sweet and crazy delicious baked Hawaiian chicken drumsticks with only 3 ingredients. Finger-lickin' good!
A few years ago, when I traveled to Oahu, I had the most amazing, sticky, sweet and tangy Hawaiian baked chicken at a local restaurant. The chicken was baked to golden brown color, with a distinctly tropical flavor of pineapple, soy sauce and honey.
I was instantly in love. I licked my fingers eating the chicken while looking out to the shimmering blue sea.
While I couldn’t go back to Hawaii as I wished, this time of year is a great time to re-create some of my favorite foods, inspired by my past travels. This past weekend, while having a few close friends over, I decided to make these Hawaiian baked chicken.
For the marinade, I used KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce Mix and Dry Rubs, Sweet Honey flavor. I went to my local Walmart store and picked up KC Masterpiece®, some chicken drumsticks and bottled pineapple juice.
I am so happy that Walmart is a short 5 minutes drive from my home. It’s well-stocked with everything and makes Spring/Summer entertaining such a breeze.
The Hawaiian baked chicken turned out to be a HUGE hit. Both my friends and the kids finished them up in no time. They were absolutely juicy, moist, sweet, savory, with a mild tang from the pineapple juice.
No one believed that it took me practically 5 minutes active time and only 3 ingredients to prepare the chicken. Load on up KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce Mix and Dry Rubs in the different flavors (Original, Spicy Habanero and Sweet Honey) the next time you shop at Walmart.
They can be found at the condiments aisle near the other KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce. KC Masterpiece make it easy to customize your meal to taste just how you like it.
Customize it with water, juice, soda, beer or bourbon or just use it as a dry rub. Enjoy!

Aloha!
Do you happen to remember where in O’ahu you had this chicken? Would really like to try it!!! I live in ‘Aiea, above Pearl Harbor. If you could email me the place, that would be great!
Excited about your recipe as well! Especially since I just called Wal-Mart to check if they had the KC Masterpiece Sweet Honey…
At first the gal said they only had bottled KC, but went to check the shelf and *YAY!* she found it!!!! $4.08 plus tax here, but still cheaper than the $22.90 (3pack/ $7.63 per box ) at Amazon. (Although… free Prime Shipping, straight to my door. My Wal-Mart isn’t as easy to get to as yours is, due to Rail Project traffic mess, time, gas… Hmmmm…..?)
Hi Kala, I am so sorry but I forgot where. It’s one of those spots that you just walked into and the food was amazing.
HI: Marie Thank You for the info. I found both at my local Walmart also. Dale
I found the Dry mix at Walmart but it was the “original ” flavor so I added more honey to the pineapple and mix and it was delish. Also added some pineapple chunks at the end of cooking. BTW…… I baked mine at 375 degrees for one hour :)
Marie – wow, that’s a great idea. I am so glad that you get to try out my Hawaiian baked chicken recipe. :)
Good luck finding the “KC Masterpieceยฎ BBQ Sauce Mix and Dry Rubs, Sweet Honey flavor” Unless you find it on the web at a inflated cost.
Why use a dry rub when you can buy KC Sweet Honey BBQ Flavor already mixed in bottle. All Kroger stores carry it ( Fry’s Ralph’s. Wal mar also has it.
I’d also be curious to know if this is sold in Canada, or if there is something else we could use to substitute. Thanks!
Any substitute for the kc masterpiece dry to mix? Can’t find it at my local Safeway
Can this product be purchased in Canada??
