Hawaiian Shrimp Scampi (Garlic Butter Shrimp)

Hawaiian shrimp scampi made famous by Giovanni’s shrimp truck. Easy shrimp scampi recipe using shrimp, garlic, butter, olive oil and lemon juice.

Lately, Hawaiian-style shrimp scampi or garlic butter shrimp photos keep popping up on my feeds on Facebook. Some photos are my friend’s vacation photos as they chowed down on the world’s famous Giovanni’s shrimp scampi, while others are recipes and videos of copycat recipes of this delicacy.

Hawaiian Shrimp Scampi

I love shrimp and I can eat shrimp every day. So, the more I look at those photos, the more I am craving for the luscious, buttery, and lip-smacking Giovanni’s shrimp scampi that I had 4 years ago while we vacationed in Oahu. As I couldn’t just pack up my luggage and hop on the plane to the paradise island, I had to do something about my hunger and intense craving. So, I gathered all the ingredients—a short list of essentials that most people have at home—and made this Hawaiian shrimp scampi at home. The end result: one pound of buttery, garlicky, yummy shrimp goodness that I finished all by myself. I was enjoying the gorgeous day, soaking in the warmth of sunshine, and downing the shrimp with a bottle of cold beer. Ahhhh, it was as if I was transported to Kahuku, the north shore of Oahu island, where the legendary shrimp truck is.

Hawaiian Shrimp Scampi

For my creation, I used olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and butter. I also checked out this recipe and then created my own recipe, based on this photo that I captured during the trip.

Even though my version is not 100% identical, I got my shrimp scampi to taste as close as Giovanni’s. I was very happy with my Hawaiian shrimp scampi recipe. If you have tried the original, I strongly urge you to try my interpretation when you have a craving for it. If you haven’t been to Hawaii, you should totally try it, too, as this is a perfect summer dish to share and enjoy with your friends and family. You should also check out my peel and eat shrimp.

    Just for grins – ingredients list squirts of lemon juice, but description said lime. which is correct?

    They look amazing. Do you eat the shells? I know at times the shells are so soft you can actually eat them whole instead of peeling them and losing some of the yummy ingredients.

    This looks absolutely delicious! I didn’t get a chance to go to Giovanni’s when I was in Oahu, but it will be a must visit on my next trip.

    I’m going to attempt to make the shrimp w/out the shell…hopefully, it’ll turn out.

    thank you for the recipe, i tried making it yesterday but my garlic burn. The taste was good just have to figure out how to not burn the garlic. The shrimp wasnt cook that long either, just 5 minutes each side.

    I was CRAVING noodles, but I didn’t have yellow noodles, so I used soba noodles to make Bee’s Garlic Noodles & it was DELICIOUS!!! I paired the noodles with Bee’s Hawaiian Shrimp Scampi recipe… It was the easiest, most DELICIOUS dinner in 25mins I have ever whipped up!!!     Made this for dinner, and it was so easy and yummy. Didn’t have white wine, so I used vodka (what we had – don’t judge!). I also added more than a squirt of lemon because I love acid (that came out bad). Anyways, thanks for the recipe!
