How Long To Cook Chicken Thighs In An Instant Pot

Chicken thighs with

The pressure cooking time is very short, depending on how tender you want your chicken thighs to be.

I use a 6-quart Instant Pot. For boneless and skinless chicken thighs, pressure cook on Manual setting and high pressure for 6 minutes.

For bone-in chicken thighs, it’s 8 minutes on Manual setting and high pressure. This setting works the best as it yield tender and juicy chicken, with a nice bite to the chicken.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 1/2 lbs (750g) boneless and skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup mirin
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water, mix well
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • white sesame seeds, for garnishing, optional

Instructions

  • Turn on the Sauté mode on your Instant Pot. Once the pot is fully heated (to prevent the chicken from sticking), add the cooking oil.
  • Pan-sear the chicken thighs until they turn slightly brown on the surface. (If they stick to the pot too much, you can use a non-stick skillet for searing or skip this step.)
  • Add the soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Cover the pot, select Manual, and set it to High Pressure for 6 minutes.

Yes, enough liquid. There is a myth about not enough liquid and it won’t pressure cook. It’s not true. The recipe works beautifully.
