Baked Cod Recipe
Cod is my favorite fish, other than swai fish and tilapia recipes.
Oven baked cod is one of the best fish recipes and the end result is always juicy and moist.
As cod fillets have very mild flavor, you only need a few ingredients such as lemon to bake the fish.
This simple and healthy recipe is so easy and calls for 4 seasonings and takes only 5 minutes prep time.
It’s a great dinner idea for those busy weeknights!

How to Bake Cod?
To bake cod fillets in an oven, first you need a baking tray. I like using a glass baking tray.
You can also line a piece of aluminum foil on a baking sheet and place the fish on top of it before baking.
The perfect temperature for baking cod fish is 400°F or 205°C.
How long to bake cod? The answer is 10 – 12 minutes and depends on the thickness of the cod.
DO NOT overcook the fish fillets or they will turn dry and rubbery.
Can I Use Frozen Cod Fillets?
Yes. Thaw the frozen cod fillet at room temperature before cooking.
Make sure you pat dry the fish fillets to remove excess water from the fish.

A great substitute for the cayenne, is dill weed, if you can’t handle the heat. I can never remember the cooking time so that’s really all I needed. Thanks!
Thanks.
I don’t know what went wrong with mine but the fishy taste of the fish was so strong and I just couldn’t eat it. Also since I had a thicker cod I had to cook it longer than what you have in your recipe and I ended up overcooking it. ?
Was it frozen fish? The best way to defrost frozen fish without that smell and odd fishy taste is the Japanese way. Give the frozen fish a wash in salty water to take off surface impurities, then wrap in paper towels and then cling wrap and leave in the fridge. I don’t know why but it works every time. I learned it from a show on NHK the Japanese broadcaster.
It probably was old fish. If you’re buying fresh fish, smell it first. If it smells like fish, don’t buy it. Fresh fish has no smell. Born and raised in New England. We know all about fish. Frozen fish is a crap shoot so the method mentioned here might work…
If I double the number of cod fillets in the recipe how should I adjust the cooking time?
No, it should work the same.
This is my go to recipe for Cod.I usually cook my fish in breading, but I had to change my diet for a better heath style. This recipe is simple and delicious.
Thanks.
I just made your recipe for the first time and Oh Em Gee, it was PERFECTLY flavored! Definitely a keeper! I accompanied it with broccoli florets made with olive oil and garlic, and coleslaw. So delicious! So healthy for ya’, too! Now, though I’m going to reward myself with a caramel vanilla ice cream Oreo cone! lol! Thank you for this fabulous recipe!
Thanks!
I tried the baked cod recipe last week & it was great! I even went to seafood market to ensure I had freshest fish…a little pricey but since I got 2 meals out of 1, it was worth the price. Mine took exactly 12 minutes in oven. I had fresh green beans as a side & really enjoyed this healthy meal! Thanks!
Absolutely delicious. Thank you for this quick easy recipe. My husband loves the cayenne pepper but I need to do it very lightly on mine.
Thanks!
Very good, I probably should have read the part about patting the fish dry to remove excess water, so it became baked and boiled cod! Thank you
I also noticed the same thing. If cod is Alaskan wild it’s good.Farmed raised for get it.
Excellent recipe. Simple, fast and flavorful (added an extra couple dashes of cayenne). Salad and side of spaghetti squash accompanied the fish. Will make the cod again. Thanks.
Sounds good But you stopped me in my tracks when you equated cod with swai and tilapia. Certainly cod is the more nobler. Please tell me it isn’t being farmed…..
