Crab Dip Recipe

Crab dip is easy and quick to make. With just a few ingredients you can have a delicious and hot appetizer for tailgating or upcoming football season.

This baked crab dip will be perfect for the upcoming holidays. It’s also great for potluck parties.

What Kind Of Crab To Use

Crab dip recipe with Dungeness crab meat, cream cheese and mayonnaise.

I used Dungeness Crab meat, but Blue Crab would be good as well. If neither of those options are available, you can use imitation or canned crab meat.


How To Make Hot Crab Dip

Step 1. Boil the Dungeness crab in boiling water until cooked, about 8 minutes. Drain and let cool. Pick the crabmeat from the crab and set aside.

Step 2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C). In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, mayonnaise, Old Bay Seasoning, ground mustard, and cayenne pepper until well blended. Add the crabmeat and toss gently.

Step 3. Spread the mixture in a baking dish and sprinkle with Cheddar cheese. Bake for 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Serve immediately with sliced French bread or crackers.


What To Eat With Baked Crab Dip

This appetizer can be eaten with sliced French baguette or your favorite crackers. You may toast the sliced baguette if you like.

You can also serve with toasted bread, bread sticks or pita chips.

  • Be careful to not over mix the ingredients in the bowl because you will break up the crab meat.
  • Be sure to use a high quality mayonnaise. I used Best Foods brand.
  • You can adjust the heat by adding more cayenne pepper or Tabasco sauce.
  • You can use any cheese you prefer, such as pepper jack or mozzarella.

Yes, of course you can, but I do not recommend it. Before freezing, cool completely and then cover with plastic wrap. Do not freeze for more than 2 days.

Ingredients  

  • 1 lb (500g) lump crabmeat , I used two 2-lb (900g) live Dungeness crab
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 3 dashes cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions
